The space
THE POOLHOUSE!!! Have your very own private resort. Just 6 miles from the beautiful beaches of the Kohala Coast. A-Bay, Waialea Bay, and Hapuna Beach are all just a short drive from your “resort.” The Poolhouse comes with a salt water pool with waterfall. The house itself comes complete with everything you need for a private, romantic get away. A fully equipped kitchen with gas stove, frig, microwave and dishwasher. A commercial gas grill is right outside if you feel like cooking and dining next to the pool. Also the Poolhouse has a California king size bed (fold out sofa bed, too), a living area with 55″ flat screen (with a “zillion” music choices via Spectrum cable), and high speed WiFi with new routers/WiFi enhancers installed in 2019. Start your day with a early swim in the refreshing salt water (better for your skin) followed by breakfast (provided by guest) next to the pool. Then when you return from a day of adventure or relaxing at the beach (or a round of golf at nearby Robert Trent Jones II designed Waikoloa golf course–just two miles away), have a rest in the outdoor hammock while grilling your dinner on the gas grill as the waterfall gently splashes nearby and completes your perfect day.
The Poolhouse was completely renovated in 2013 with a brand new kitchen and bathroom. New flooring installed in June 2019. Our Poolhouse, pool area and grounds are completely smoke-free and drug free. Thank you in advance for your compliance!
AIR CONDITIONING, starting May 2019, A/C is now available at an additional $25/day. Still, most folks who sightsee and head to the beach during daytime hours, feel the fans are adequate. But not all. So because we want to make the poolhouse affordable and comfortable, we now offer A/C ala carte. We understand that every guest travels differently, and many will not want or need A/C since, as forementioned, they plan to be out touring most of the day (why pay for something you’re not using?!). The hottest time of day at the poolhouse is from 2-6pm. We recommend being outside during those times, in or around the pool (or heading to the beach). The mornings and evenings are usually quite pleasant, especially with our gentle trade winds. If your plan on using A/C or you think you’d lean that way, please reach out to Bob and Leesa prior to your arrival. However, if you decide during your stay, you would like the comfort of A/C, they will be happy to assist in making sure that happens. Please note that electricity is not cheap in Hawaii, and to keep Poolhouse costs affordable for future guests, we ask that when the A/C is being used, it is when guests are in the Poolhouse. Please don’t run A/C while you are not there. The A/C is a portable unit that takes the edge off a very hot day, but it doesn’t make the Poolhouse “movie-theater-cold.” That, again, is why we recommend being outside from 2pm-6pm, using the pool, lounging and reading a good book, or heading down to one of our great nearby beaches for an ocean swim or snorkel.
GOLF: Nestled in the foothills of Mauna Kea overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Waikoloa Village Golf Course is truly one of Hawaii’s most beautiful courses. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones and is only a five minute drive from the Poolhouse.
Beach Equipment: At the Poolhouse we have a lot of beach equipment available to you at no additional cost. Beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, and boogie boards, etc..
Restaurants: Five minutes away you will find a few local restaurants. Pueo’s Italian, Lava Java (a great coffee shop), Los Tres Mex takeout and a local Thai takeout.
15-25 minutes away is LAVA LAVA BEACH CLUB (our favorite), Sensei, Macaroni Grill, Under the Bodhi Tree, Blue Dragon, and Seafood Bar, Monstera, and Tommy Bahamas.
About 30 minutes away is a local brewery BIG ISLAND BREWHAUS, PAU PIZZERIA, RED WATER CAFE.
Beaches: Best and closest beaches to the POOLHOUSE (15-20 minute drive) Anaehoomalu Bay, Mauna Kea Beach, Hapuna Beach, Beach 69! Best beaches on the whole island!
We have a fabulous book that we leave with suggestions on where to go, what to see, and where to eat and we are more than happy to give you more suggestions if you desire.
Bob & Leesa (and Kelsey) live on the property, too, in a home on one of the three lots that make up the Poolhouse grounds and are available for emergencies or simply answering questions.
Guest access
FREE and EASY Offstreet parking with private entrance.
Other things to note
For extra guests beyond 2, an additional fee of $25 per person per day will apply. There is a sofa bed for your extra guest. Note: Bob & Leesa offer the Poolhouse as primarily a place for two, sleeping a couple in the Cal King bed, but realize some unique situations demand the flexibility of an overnight guest and that’s where the sofa bed comes in. Again, please let your hosts know if that applies to you and sheets and towels will be provided for that extra guest. When two couples are traveling together, one couple may want to check out an AirBnb property across the street (not associated with the owners of Poolhouse of Waikoloa). It’s listed as Hale Aquacat.
